Our lives are a tragic and beautiful story that continues to unfold! Since you made your way here, it’s likely that you already know part of it. Every day that we live we are inspired by our children, parents, and our past. We keep asking “If they were here, what is it that they’d want us to share?”
I came across a memory photo the other day of the very 1st time Kathryn got dressed all by herself – she wasn’t even 3 years old. The look on her face told me how proud she was to accomplish such a big girl task! I remember too Kaleb’s frustrated determination in so many aspects of his life, so much so that he would at times lose it angrily when he couldn’t do what he thought he ought to be able to. He was reading Dr Seuss before his death, and he wasn’t even 6 years old. Kristian was close to the top of his preschool class consistently and he knew how to work his charm to get what he wanted. When I think of Kasper, I can see the determined furrow of his brow as he angrily says “No, me!” When his sister tried to help him. Their determination is our trademark.
My mom’s last act, God love her, was to save the lives of her grandkids. Her effort cost her, her life. And my dad never gave up hope on anyone. He did everything within his power to help anyone and everyone in his space. If you were one of the people blessed to be loved by him, you know the lengths that he would go to serve you! Their love is also our trademark
Now, as Carlos and I take one difficult step after another, we acknowledge that we must keep moving forward. We have to keep putting one foot in front of the other… We have to keep sharing Jesus everywhere we go because to not do so would make us hypocrites. We step in the same path that we encouraged our kids on time and time again. Some days when it is hardest to lift my head, when it is hardest to get out of bed, I can almost hear their chorused whisper from heaven – “Keep going, mommy and daddy!” Our parents would chime in “Keep going, really- keep stepping in faith to endure and find joy in the process. We can’t wait until you can see what we see!”
In a face-off between a pounding river and a boulder, the river will win. It’ll take time, it’ll take relentless determination, but the river knows that it is going to win and so it keeps going. To you we say the same thing…You know the end of the story, Jesus wins! Will you choose the winning side?
Our family wants us to share the love of Jesus with their fierce determination! Like the current of a river, we will love people with consistency so that our story can encourage as many as will listen to “Keep Going, Really!”
